A few years ago a close friend and colleague approached me with the opportunity to illustrate a book of short stories that he had written. Mario, the author and friend, is one of the most ambitious and impressive people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. If he proposes a project it WILL come […]

New work for The Guardian

I was given my first commission for The Guardian last week. The article titled Could Microsoft’s climate crisis ‘moonshot’ plan really work? was certainly a challenge to illustrate, but when the solution finally comes together it really is that much more fulfilling. Basically, Microsoft has pledged to go carbon negative by 2030, and this article […]

Jazz musician drawing

Last month I visited New Orleans and had a chance to spend two nights on Frenchman Street in the world famous French Quarter. Frenchman Street is famous for its eclectic mix of live music happening nightly, late into the night. Perfect for me to put the kids to bed and get out to experience the […]

Last week I was commissioned to create another series of illustrations for ProPublica, this time the topic was Carbon Credits. Carbon Credits are benefits awarded for projects that reduce pollution through forest preservation. To clarify here is what journalist Lisa Song has written “In case after case, I found that carbon credits hadn’t offset the […]

Here is my latest illustration for the Style section of the New York Times. I was asked to illustrate gender inequality in the fashion industry. I had a few sketch options which I think worked but I’m really happy with the “slanted runway” concept that was chosen. Many thanks to AD Bernadette and the NYT for […]

I was contacted last week to create a series of illustrations for the Style section of the New York Times. The illustrations needed to work with photos of different cosmetics as the article was about How to Wear Spring’s Most Inventive New Makeup. It was a bit of a challenge but challenges often lead to interesting […]

In December I was asked to create live “fashion” portraits of any interested employees of the Hudson Bay Company during their holiday party. Located on the west side of Manhattan near the Freedom Tower, the views were stunning. And the building itself, wow. So yes, I love live drawing, and all of my subjects that […]

Here are a few spots I did for Retirement Advisor magazine. The illustrations were all based on quotes by leading retirement-financial advisors. The “money-boat” was based on a quote about targeting areas where money is in motion. The party-goers under the stars illustrates a specific charitable event, “An Evening Under the Stars”. The original quote […]

Below is an illustration I recently completed for the Canadian Pension & Benefits Institute. It was a challenging piece as the subject matter was quite complex and relatively unfamiliar to me, BUT I enjoy the challenging pieces best. I love to learn when I work. For this piece, I was asked to illustrate the history […]

Reportage is the single most important part of my success as a visual artist. Whether it be illustration, graphic design or photography, learning to tell a story while I am part of it has taught me to appreciate and understand what the essential elements of visual communication are…knowledge, experience, and the ability to draw.

Last night’s fashion drawing session with @bildonovan @soi128 @offenbad
Views from my home yesterday.
If you watched my #igtv vid, here is the finished #drawing
My first #drawingvideo on Instagram. Full disclosure, this is sped up 😉 I can draw fast but not that fast. Swipe for the finished #drawing
“1-minutes” are what these short poses are sometimes called. They’re great for capturing body language and design. What I find is that they tend to be honest and instinctual. Less time to think and only time to react. It’s great exercise for the mind and hand.
Happy New Year!
