TV

I spent some time watching tennis yesterday and I did a few drawings from the screen. It’s a great way to practice when you don’t have a model. Here is one I was particularly happy with.

illustration for CPBI

Below is an illustration I recently completed for the Canadian Pension & Benefits Institute. It was a challenging piece as the subject matter was quite complex and relatively unfamiliar to me, BUT I enjoy the challenging pieces best. I love to learn when I work. For this piece, I was asked to illustrate the history of the pension and benefits industry in Canada.

I know I’ll never see anything quite like this again. Here are 2 drawings from Thursday. And here is a link to some drawings I made during the construction of the new stadium.

As a footnote, Bon Jovi was also playing that night, and I realized quickly that their greatest hits, sung by New Jersey tailgaters is not exactly the “mood” music I was looking for. But hey, when in NJ…

Illustration for St. Louis Magazine

My latest illustration is about former Senator Jeff Smith’s ‘FALL’ from grace. This modern day Icarus, has been ruined by political scandal and a felony conviction.

It was great to work again with AD Kevin Goodbar, and I love what he did with the layout and type.

The Communication Arts Illustration Annual is out. I received my copy yesterday and as I reported a few months ago, my reportage series on Times Square has been recognized. I’ve always felt that CA is one of the best publications for illustrators as well as the entire creative industry and it is an honor to be included. Here is a scan of the spread, pick up your copy today, there is some great work in there!
