We had a beautiful snow day today in the Northeast. Made even more beautiful as the snow didn’t entirely shut our city down as it had a few weeks ago. So I had some time today and took advantage of the scene out my window to do a few color studies. What fun.
On Saturday night I was fortunate enough to be invited to the incredible Jazz and Art II concert by The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. The show featured works by artists including Bearden, Davis, Sam Gilliam, Homer, Wifredo Lam, Mondrian, Matisse, Picasso and others projected behind the orchestra as they played jazz inspired by the works. What an amazing event to reportage! Honestly it was a bit overwhelming to hear this incredibly original music while watching the backdrop of master works of art. It was an experience both personally and artistically. The only way it could have been better would have been to have all day and all of my art supplies!
Here is a selection of drawings from the performance.
By way of a friend, my wife Despina and I were granted access to reportage a performance at JAZZ at Lincoln Center. An opportunity like this doesn’t come along often so we really went for it. The performance by Wes “Warmdaddy” Anderson, Marc Cary, Neal Caine, and Jeff Tain Watts took place in Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola , a space acoustically designed for jazz. It was an unforgettable experience and I feel like, considering the limited light and space, the work I produced is strong and tells the story of that evening. Thank you to everyone at JAZZ who made us feel very welcome and especially to Susan who made this all possible.
Here are a few of the drawings I made that night.

I found out today that my reportage series “Traffic-Free Times Square” has been accepted into the Communication Arts Illustration Annual. I’m honored to be included in CA, and I’m really excited about it too! Shows you the potential of spending a nice day drawing!
I’ve been doing a bit of commuting lately and I thought I’d resurrect some of my commuter drawings from last year. Here are a few portraits and a group drawing. Stay tuned for more…
