Reportage
If you’ve been over to my wife Despina’s blog you know that we went on a Greek ‘odyssey’ this summer. I’ll never forget the trip for many reasons, but the most memorable for me was that for the first time I had the opportunity to visit family in another part of the world. Being welcomed into a distant relative’s home, eating their food and being witness to their lifestyle was incredible and unlike anything I had experienced before. These drawings were made in the village of Kalives on the island of Crete, where my mother-in-law is from and where many of my days were spent this summer.

Chania is the second largest city in Crete, and in my opinion the most beautiful, particularly the venetian harbor. On the water there is a venetian lighthouse and a mosque, all evidence of the rich history of this area. This reportage series was made behind the buildings facing the harbor where small alleys are lined with the most beautifully colored venetian buildings. It’s truly like walking back in time. I hope to post more art from my trip in the coming days and weeks ahead, so check back soon.

Along with my recent illustrations for St. Louis Magazine, they ran this small piece about me and my thoughts on illustrating wine. It was cool to be asked.

These were fun illustrations to do. AD Kevin Goodbar commissioned the 4 spots after receiving one of my postcards (who said postcards don’t work!!). I love wine as a subject for illustration (not just drinking it). It’s a rich subject…just look at these 4 different topics I had to illustrate:
Screwcaps have become more preferable than corks

Classes about wine are great
